Let's be honest, if either you or I looked in our bag, drawer or pocket, we'd find a stack of business cards wouldn't we?  But could you pick the owner of said card our of a police line up? If you're anything like me, the answer is a big fat no!  One trick I (sometimes do) is jot a few notes on the back of the card about where I met the person and/or something we talked about.  And then, if I'm being efficient, I'll follow it up with an email. Not a call you understand, just an email and then mentally, I can say I did something with it.

It's not just me that does that is it?

The problem, apart from my natural shyness (don't laugh) is that none of us like to make a nuisance of ourselves (still don't laugh) and we have that very English polite thing of waiting until we're asked.

Many of us go to networking events, which is where many of the cards come from but why? Clearly, we all hope it's going to add some value to our businesses but we don't really go about it with a strategy do we? Well they don't teach you that in business school do they?
